4 Signs To Reveal When You Need New Tires

You may take your car in for an oil change when the light on your dashboard reminds you. But do you know when to replace your tires? Many people put off servicing their vehicles and inspecting their tires until it’s too late. Unfortunately, tire failures cause about 11,000 wrecks annually, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

So that you can stay safe and avoid being in a Florida car accident due to worn out tires, it is a good idea to know the telltale signs of when you need to purchase new tires. Some of the many signs that can help you know when it is time to replace your tires include:

  1. Cracks or gouges in the sidewall. If you see anything that looks like a bulge, gouge, or crack in your tire, it is best to have your tire inspected immediately.

  2. Vibration. If your car feels like it is vibrating, your tires may be out of balance. While there could be other issues than a tire issue, it is best to take your car into a dealer to have your tires and vehicle looked at.

  3. Tire inflation. You should check your tire pressure every month to make sure you have the right inflation. Tires can deflate quickly when there is a leak, which can indicate a safety concern.

  4. Tread wear. Check your tires for wear by looking at the wear bar or using a penny to determine if the tread is too low. The penny test works when you insert a penny into the tread with Lincoln’s head pointing down. If you can see the top of his head, the tread wear is dangerously low and the tire should be replaced.

Unfortunately, some tires are defective and may not reveal a warning sign until it is too late. If you have been injured as a result of a defective tire, you may have a Florida personal injury claim.
