I Heard There Was A Dangerous Truck Driver In Florida That Was Ordered Not To Drive Anymore. Is This True?
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has the power to shut down hazardous trucking companies and order truck drivers and bus drivers to cease operation of commercial vehicles in Florida and across this nation. When bus and truck companies and drivers fail to comply with the new hours-of-service rules and other federal regulations, the FMCSA can shut down companies and remove unsafe drivers from the roadway.
Recently, FMCSA did exactly that. A Florida-licensed long-haul truck driver was declared an imminent hazard to public safety. Truck driver Devon L. House, from Casselberry, Florida, was ordered not to operate any commercial motor vehicle in interstate commerce. The federal order became effective on January 14, 2014, prohibiting House from putting the public at risk.
“It is unacceptable for a bus or trucking company, or any of its drivers, to disregard the law and put the safety of every traveler at risk,” said FMCSA Administrator Anne S. Ferro. House, who has a commercial driver’s license, was cited for alcohol-related violations while operating a commercial truck on three separate occasions over a six-month period. As a result, the FMCSA has enforced safety regulations to protect innocent motorists sharing the road with House.
When truck drivers make bad choices and don’t follow the federal laws in place to help protect the public, trucking accidents in Florida and around this nation can occur. U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said, “We will not allow safety to be compromised, and unsafe commercial drivers who endanger the public will be removed from our nation’s roads.”
