Failing To Get A Truck Serviced Can Cause A Florida Truck Crash

Driving on the interstate, highway, or city street can be dangerous. All motorists risk their lives when sharing the road with other cars and trucks. While this shouldn’t be the case, many traffic accidents occur because of drivers’ negligence, carelessness, distraction, and aggression. However, some collisions happen because of failing to care for a vehicle and not getting regular maintenance.

In fact, one reason why Florida truck accidents occur is because trucks aren’t getting serviced. All parts on a truck are moving and can wear out, break, or fail. This is why trucks should be inspected regularly and have preventative services to help identify the parts that are vulnerable or need to be replaced. For example, tires and brakes are susceptible to wear and tear. When truckers drive their trucks too many miles without having their brakes and tires inspected, the results can be catastrophic.

If a large truck cannot stop in time, an 80,000 pound semi might barrel into the back of an innocent driver, run a red light and t-bone a car, or jackknife and cause other cars to crash. In either event, a crash with a semi can be very serious and even fatal. Unfortunately, some truckers and trucking companies know the driving risks and continue to push their trucks without getting them inspected or having the proper maintenance done.

So Why Don’t Truckers or Trucking Companies Take Care of Their Trucks?

  • Money. A trucking company would rather make money than spend money on making costly repairs or taking a truck off the road to get worked on.

  • Time. Time is money. If they spend time working on the truck, they are losing that time the truck is on the road and making money for them.

  • Different priorities. Although they should prioritize roadway safety and put safety above all else, they may fail at assessing the risks and managing maintenance because they are prioritizing getting goods to their customers.

Truck drivers travel many miles, so they should go the extra mile to keep their trucks in good working condition for their own safety and the safety of others on the road. When they ignore the signs that a truck is failing or brakes need to be replaced, or trucking companies fail to take care of the trucks, a Florida truck crash could occur.
