In a 2012 Congressional report, it was reported that one in three nursing homes are guilty of abusing their residents. NEWS: Alzheimer Abuse by Nursing Home Staff

  1. Nursing home in Atlanta, Georgia faces 70 criminal charges for abusing 21 Alzheimer’s patients. Abuse incidences include: physical abuse such as nurses striking Alzheimer’s patients and throwing water on them; restraining Alzheimer’s patients with bed sheets considered under “inhumane and undignified conditions”. Although 11 employees were arrested, the owner, Donna Wright, still remains at large.

  2. Nursing home in West Virginia faced $91.5 million charge causing death of 87-year-old Alzheimer’s female patient. Nursing home staff had criminal backgrounds including voluntary manslaughter, identity theft, elderly abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation.

  3. Bronx, NY nursing home aide caught on hidden video abusing Alzheimer’s patient; striking her twice on her side, snapping the victim’s arm back, slamming her into bed’s metal railing, and intentionally pushing the bedding onto the patient’s body.
