How Do I Know If A Nursing Home Has Previous Violations?

When checking out a nursing home prior to placing your loved one in their care, there are many tools and resources you can use to check to see if that nursing home has received violations or deficiencies. When you look at the reviews, you will be able to see if that nursing home has received violations for food handling, quality of care, sexual abuse, neglect, and other serious quality issues.

Recently, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services published an updated Special Focus Facility list in December 2013, which reveals which facilities have a history of serious quality issues. By reviewing this list, you can stay away from some of the worst nursing homes in Florida.

Another way to determine if a nursing home is good or bad, or has a history of violations is to call your area Administration on Aging and the Florida Ombudsman to find out if they have any complaints on a specific nursing home. You can also visit Medicare’s Nursing Home Compare tool to review surveys on specific facilities.

There are many resources that can help you in your search, including the Agency for Health Care Administration, the Nursing Home Guide, and the Florida Nursing Home Watch List. In order to determine if a specific facility has a nursing home violation, contact us.

Knowing a facility’s ratings and violations can help you make an informed decision and help your elderly parent avoid being neglected or a victim of nursing home abuse in Florida.

If you suspect your loved one is a victim of abuse in a Broward County nursing home, please contact an experienced South Florida nursing home abuse lawyer at  954-677-0155 for a free consultation today.
