Potential Predictors Of Pain-Related Disabilities Identified For Low Back Pain

In 2012, the Oslo Hospital in Norway completed a one year study of 250 patients living with chronic non-specific lower back pain that lasted for six months or longer. After the year, researchers assessed possible predictors of pain-related disability and concluded that non-specific lower back pain resulted in a variety of related ailments.

Researchers discovered that one side effect of chronic back pain is an impaired fasting glucose tolerance, which means that the patients had glucose levels that were higher than average, but were still below what would be considered diabetic. Individuals with impaired fasting glucose tolerance are at a much higher risk of developing diabetes.

Other side effects the researchers identified included elevated pain levels, above average body mass indexes, and reduced quality of life. The result of all of these factors is that patients with lower back pain are, after one year, more likely to claim a pain-related disability.

If you are suffering from lower back pain disabilities due to an accident, the Law Offices of David M. Benenfeld P.A may be able to help. For more information, please visit  our website or call the office at 954-677-0155.
