Rollover Accidents Cause Serious Injuries

SUV rollovers are known to result in serious injuries and even death.  If you have been injured in a rollover accident, you may be wondering what caused it. Every year, hundreds of thousands of rollover accidents occur across the United States and thousands of people are killed.

Trucks, SUVs and minivans are especially prone to rollover accidents due to the size of these vehicles.  Experts have linked rollovers to a vehicle’s stability in a turn.  With larger vehicles, there is a higher center of gravity that can cause instability when the driver makes a sharp turn that increases the odds of the vehicle tipping over.

The driver’s actions often play a major factor in a rollover accident.  For example, if a driver makes a sharp turn to avoid an object or tries to overcompensate when the vehicle begins to pull one direction, the vehicle may rollover.  There are also many accidents associated with tire blowouts.  In an SUV, truck or minivan, a tire blowout can cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle and veer off the road.  Once a vehicle hits the soft dirt or gravel on the side of the road, there is a greater risk of a rollover crash.  Excessive speed and driver inattention have also been linked to rollovers.

Defective SUVs and other vehicles can also lead to serious injuries from a rollover accident.  A vehicle that has a weak roof or safety restraint system failure can result in serious, sometimes fatal injuries during a rollover accident.  To stay updated on recalled vehicles, you can visit the Office of Defects Investigations’ website.
